Grave III.B.32. Son of John Widdicombe Varder and Ruth Varder, of King William's Town, Cape Province (Source : C.W.G.C.). 2nd S.A.I., C Company Fought in Delville Wood in July 1916. Killed in action on the 12th October 1916. On the 12th October 1916, the 2nd and 4th S.A.I. attacked Snag and Tail Trenches. The assault died away because of machine guns nests, placed well back in prepared positions, which caught the attacking waves at long range. His brother, Alfred George VINCENT, served in the same Company and was killed the same day. He rest in the same cemetery, grave I.F.3. |
