James Basset GRAHAM |

Grave C10 Son of James and Virginia Graham, late of St Helena. Husband of Mrs FM Graham, of Mam St, Newlands, South Africa (Source : C.W.G.C.). 74th Siege Battery, South African Heavy Artillery. Killed in action on the 20th November 1916. Age 39. The Battery was at Colincamp since the 7th October 1916 in a position really untenable for a heavy battery, without cover and a favourite target for the German artillery. On the 20th November, the enemy kept up a severe bombardment all day, and four gunners were killed (the three men buried at Courcelles and Bombardier Frank Birt buried in Couin British Cemetery). |
