THE COURTYARD

        The Courtyard of the Museum accommodates the Cross of Consecration, unveiled in October 1926. This double cross is a Cross of Sacrifice - common feature in Commonwealth war cemeteries - toped by a Voortrekker Cross. Its pedestal bears the inscription in English and Afrikaans :

For their Faith and for Freedom they died

Vol vertroue het hulle vir vryheid gesterf

The courtyard is closed to the public.
