Registered on the Roll of South Africans who fell 1914-1918 edited after the War by the South African authorities.

Died of wounds on the 17th August 1916. The 12th Manchester (52nd Brigade, 17th Northern Division) attacked Orchard Trench (West of Delville Wood) on the 4th August. The attack was a failure with heavy losses (171 men for the 12th Manchester). From the 5th to 14th August, the Battalion was posted in Montauban Alley or in reserve near Carnoy then Albert. It left the Somme sector on the 15th August.
